Footprints In The Snow

A little over 12 years ago, our lives were changed forever.  Ben and I had just gotten married and moved into our first house.  We thought we couldn't have been happier but then the phone rang.  My Mom was on the other end telling us about a golden retriever breeder they were going to go visit and asked us if we would like to come along for the ride.  We decided to join them and drove to Woodstock, IL to find a puppy for my parents.  When we walked in, we saw the cutest puppy with a black haired tear drop under her left eye.  She was too precious and she fell in love with Ben and I instantly.  We knew at that moment, she was going to be ours and we were going to become puppy parents.

On the drive home from the breeder, we realized we needed to make a big decision.  What would we name the new member of our family?  As we were thinking, we were also starting to get very hungry, so we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Taco Bell.  I never could have guessed a dinner of tacos could inspire a name, but it did.  We decided to name her Belle.

Our little fur ball gave us a run for our money.  We never realized how much responsibility, work, potty surprises, squirrels in the bed, eaten walls, and destroyed socks one cute little dog could bring into the mix.

She enjoyed life to the fullest.  She loved to play with her brother Woody, go on walks, play in the snow, swim in the lake, eat popcorn and lick you like crazy.

Most of all, though, she loved to cuddle and protect her family.  We couldn't have asked for a better companion and protector for our kids.  Each one had a special connection with her, but Connor seemed to develop the deepest bond.  They were true pals from the very beginning.

When we got back home, we realized she left us some footprints in the snow to remember her by.  It is always hard to say goodbye, but we know that she is in a wonderful place and that we will meet again.

As the footprints in the snow fade away, we know the love you imprinted in our hearts will never vanish.  We will always cherish the time we all got to spend with you.
 Love you Belle!
