Before the school year ended, Connor and Corynn practiced daily for their special winter concert. Connor's class had a variety of songs to sing being the oldest in the school. Connor's favorite song required him to play the kazoo. He was excited to bring it home after the show, while we were excited it broke on the car ride home:) Corynn, who is never at a loss for a powerful vocal cord showing, was ecstatic to sing the timeless Christmas hymn, "Oh Come Let Us Oh door handle". We were proud of our little singers and treated them to ice cream and french fries after the performance.
Bennett even joined in on the singing as he accompanied Connor and Corynn at the piano for Rudolph.
All three of the kids helped make cookies this year. They loved wearing the aprons and eating the sprinkles. This was just the start of the Christmas sugar rush.
Good thing we got an unexpected 10 inches of snow to help burn off cookie energy. Suiting up to head outside proved to be a bigger obstacle than expected. When we pulled the clothes out for the kids, we quickly found out our strapping lad Connor was much taller than last year. With that being said, his sister had to wear his snow pants while he had to pull on the beautiful pink ones. He put up a big stink, as expected for any boy forced to wear girly pants, but reluctantly agreed knowing it meant he could play in the winter wonderland. Bennett's clothes made him top heavy and off balance, but he managed to enjoy the snowy fun.
I was proud of the kids sledding abilities. The hill was steep and their sleds zoomed faster than they ever had before. They had brave teeth clenching faces as they careened down the hill. I learned that tubing down a sled hill in your 30s with your toddler on your lap, backwards, is something that I only needed to try once. Bennett and I watched the rest of the action in the warm comfortable, stationary car.
As Bennett and I retreated to the house after sledding, Dad and the big kids got to work on Frosty. All the balls were shaped just so and stacked on top of each other awaiting the kids magic to bring him to life. Frosty lasted for a couple days, but when he started to melt, Connor and Corynn said not to worry, that he will be back again some day.
After all the hustle and bustle, Christmas Eve arrived. The kids opened their presents from the pajama elves and couldn't wait to wear their special pjs that were stitched with love and magic to help them sleep through Santa's delivery. Nanny and Papa Hutch arrived just in time to greet Santa and to watch the kids open their gifts.
Connor even played Santa throughout the day, while Bennett clad in Corynns beautiful jewelry, jumped in his ball house and road into the sunset on his new horse.
Corynn spent all day applying the makeup Santa brought her. Looking at this picture definitely makes me terrified for when she becomes a teenager. What a beautiful heart breaker.
This was also the year of Hello Kitty and Ninja Turtles. Who knew Chia Pets still existed. The functionality of them, I have to say, has yet to improve.
Opening presents worked up quite an appetite for all. As the kids lounged in their new beanbags eating popcorn, Belle looked on in anticipation for any kernels to fall. The big gingerbread house was a challenge to eat, but all, including Papa Hutch, figured out a way to eat the delectable icing. Some ways were more conventional than others.
As another wonderful Christmas came to an end, we all toasted for the blessings that we had throughout this year and nodded off to dream of what the next year will bring.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
